Fortune Feimster is everywhere. Tune in to Netflix, and she’s there both as comic character and a bona fide action star in season 2 of “FUBAR” along with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Scroll through award-winning podcasts, and she’s there with “Handsome,” which she cohosts with Tig Notaro and Mae Martin. She has logged three Netflix specials since 2020, and shows up in feature films and television in cameos and voice-overs.
On top of all that, she has 27 dates this year on her “Takin’ Care of Biscuits” tour, which comes to the Boch Center Wang Theatre on Oct. 11. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’m super busy right now, but with stuff I really love and really cool opportunities,” she said, speaking by Zoom. “So even though I’m busy and tired, I’m enjoying every second.”
In her first three specials, Feimster has presented her life in a rough chronological order. “Sweet & Salty” covered her childhood, “Good Fortune” showed her falling in love, and “Crushing It” was her honeymoon and marriage. The new hour of material follows in form, with a bit of a look back.
“Each special that I’ve put out very much represents where I’m at in life at that point in time, and I just sort of follow that journey of next steps,” she said. “I’m also digging back into that nostalgia factor with some fun childhood stories. It’s been a treat talking about those silly, silly childhood things.”
An indefatigably positive person, Feimster has been able to find the good in her worst struggles, as in “Good Fortune” when she turned a piece of homophobic hate mail into a poignant routine. This new tour will be a test of those abilities. In May, Fortune announced her mother, Ginger, was diagnosed with incurable but treatable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, a rare bile duct cancer. A month later, she announced her divorce from longtime partner Jax Smith. Her mother and her partner have both been important figures in her act, and Feimster knows she will have to tell those stories somehow.
