The night before speaking with the Globe for her show at the Wilbur Saturday, Margaret Cho had been up wading through a Twitter argument about Planned Parenthood. It’s an important issue for her, the type of thing she often addresses onstage. She was, she says, “trying to adjust the way that people speak to those who disagree,” in the hope of a healthy debate.
“I asked for cogent rebuttals to my statement that I think Planned Parenthood is important,” she says by phone. “I get messages like, ‘You fat pig, go back to China.’ That’s not cogent rebuttal. I’m not Chinese. I mean, I . . . I’m fat, I accept that. That’s fine. I’m a pig, too. OK. Why should I go to China because you don’t like Planned Parenthood?”
