On break from ‘SNL,’ Zamata follows her own path

Season 41 of “Saturday Night Live” won’t premiere until the fall, and Sasheer Zamata is using the break to perform some stand-up dates and shoot a supporting role in a film called “Sleight.” Zamata is a known commodity in comedy after a season and a half on “SNL,” spots on “Inside Amy Schumer,” two seasons of the Web series she co-created and stars in called “Pursuit of Sexiness,” and her time with the Upright Citizens Brigade.

But “Sleight” is a thriller, which will give Zamata, an Indiana native who studied theater at the University of Virginia, a chance to do something different. “I want to act more, for sure,” she says. Comedy or drama, she’s open to anything. “Since I moved to New York I’ve pretty much just been doing comedy, so it’s nice to have a change of pace.”
